Quilt As-You-Go Made Modern

I found a new type of quilting that I am really enjoying! I’m not going to try and explain it, because I won’t do a good enough job. So, if you’d like to learn…I just suggest that you purchase this book.

The point of this post is just for me to show this book (below) and mention that it is fun!

I’ll leave the teaching up to the author!

I knew that quilting + baby would be difficult.

A few months ago, I started following Jera Bradvig on Instagram. She talked about her quilts, her book and showed all her pretty quilts! After about six months of looking at her quilts online…I finally bought her book.

Here is the first sentence in the introduction to her book:

“After having my son, the only time I had left to quilt was late at night, when the last thing I should be doing is handling a rotary cutter and making precise measurements. When it is that late, I’m just not all there, if you know what I mean. My style of quilting had to adapt to my lifestyle.”

AMEN.

I couldn’t wait to keep reading!

She continued, “Quilting as-you-go allows you to be truly creative and expressive with your quilting. Free yourself from following precise patterns and make your quilt your way!”

So, I started in on a quilt! The only “thing” I had to buy was a walking foot. I wanted one anyway, so I made the leap!

Here’s a few pics from my studio/nursery as I’ve been quilting-as-I-go!

The method is a bit hard to explain, but her book does a good job. Lots of pictures, easy to understand directions. I love it!

The reason that this method is good for busy people, because of the improvisational nature. There is no precise cutting and piecing needed.

I’ll try to post some pictures of my progress soon!

Hey, I’m Sierra Shea! I am so glad you are here.

Where do I start with writing to introduce this blog? At the beginning, I suppose: I’ve been writing on various platforms online since 2013. I started blogging shortly after moving to South Dakota.

I am a mother and a maker at heart. I’m so grateful to be married to John and mother of three: Joslyn, J.D. and Jesse.

I am a self-taught decorator and designer. I am a brand new shepherdess and a Spiritual Director.

I love living in South Dakota, even though the winters & the wind can be a near-daily struggle.

Blogging is a grounding force in my life and it helps get me out of my head, unstuck and moving in the directions I always hoped I’d be going!
