This Christmas has special meaning for me.

As my first Christmas with a newborn, I am more in awe than ever at the Christmas story.

To think, Lord and Maker of the Universe came down to Earth so humbly.

As a baby.

If there is one thing we have learned about babies in the last two months it is that they are simply, utterly dependent & helpless.

At first, they can’t even hold up their heads or see more than 12 inches away.

What do we learn about a God who chooses to come into the world so…gently, quietly and humbly?

In a barn, no less.

It could have been a much, much different story full of conquering, display of power and wealth.

Instead, we learn of a baby in a barn.

The Christmas Story never ceases to amaze, softening our hearts to welcome Immanuel, God with us!

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

As for my first Christmas in South Dakota and my first Christmas as a mother…

The day is starting wonderfully!

John is doing chores, I’m finally quilting and baby Joslyn is about to wake up from her nap.

It also looks like we will get our wish for a mostly “Brown Christmas”!

So well said! 32 years ago my first child was born on Dec. 30th. I spent time thinking about those same things and being in awe! Thank you for your reminder!

Joslyn is a beautiful and well-loved child. I wish that all the children in the world could be as well-loved.

Hey, I’m Sierra Shea! I am so glad you are here.

Where do I start with writing to introduce this blog? At the beginning, I suppose: I’ve been writing on various platforms online since 2013. I started blogging shortly after moving to South Dakota.

I am a mother and a maker at heart. I’m so grateful to be married to John and mother of three: Joslyn, J.D. and Jesse.

I am a self-taught decorator and designer. I am a brand new shepherdess and a Spiritual Director.

I love living in South Dakota, even though the winters & the wind can be a near-daily struggle.

Blogging is a grounding force in my life and it helps get me out of my head, unstuck and moving in the directions I always hoped I’d be going!
