This week, I am going to Omaha to meet my Mom and sisters for some girl time, swimming, shopping and sewing.
We are meeting in the middle!
After some debate, we decided to all sew the same project. Over the weekend, I took a little time to make a practice project.
For a full tutorial on a larger star, visit In Color Order.
For a short one to make a table topper or wall hanging…read on.
Materials:
4 light fat quarters – same color, different values
4 dark fat quarters – same color, different values
Directions:
- Cut two 10 inch by 10 inch squares from each fat quarter. You will end up with 8 light squares and 8 dark squares.
- Cut the squares into triangles. You will end up with 16 light triangles and 16 dark triangles.
- Draw a picture to plan location of your colors.
- Lay out your star!
- Sew. Press. Finish.
A Few Pictures
Here’s a few pictures to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. I’m glad I made a practice quilt. This will make our sewing go a little more smoothly once we arrive at The Quilted Moose on Tuesday.
I think it will be neat for all four of us to have the same small table topper or wall hanging.
I used fabrics from designer Renee Nannemen. Renee is teaming up with me to offer a giveaway of these eight fat quarters. You could make this exact red & white star for your own home. To enter, simply use the ‘rafflecopter’ below to ‘like’ Renee’s Facebook page and this blog’s Facebook page. If you like both pages, you’ll be entered twice. At the end of the week, I’ll contact the winner and Renee will mail off the pretty little bundle. You will know that you entered by looking in the top right corner of the rafflecopter. It should say: 2/2 entries earned
Sounds like a great time!
This reminds me a lot of the one I made for our Relay team to raffle this spring, it used 4 BIG stars and made a nice ‘sofa quilt’ Love those big squares, makes the quilt go together so much more quickly!
I really love that star you’ve made. When I buy fabric I end up with a lot of red! I just love the color (and blue too). Your instructions are very clear. I am sure to be giving it a try! Thanks! And thanks for the chance to win the gorguos fabric you’ve used!
Thanks, I think I’m going to finish with a blue border.
I like the star quilt pattern! I needed an idea to make something for a couple of gals retiring from carrying mail. I can use old uniforms to make this! Thank you for the idea!
That will be really neat!
Beautiful! Love the fabrics.
I love red toiles! I am collecting for a quilt or wall hanging.
I love the color combination! Red and White are my favorite colors too! Thank you for the inspiration….
Thank you for the chance to win such beautiful fabric.

REAlLY LIKE THE color combinations.
