This is the “before” photo of our living room. We began tackling this room in early June.  DSCN2630 DSCN2629The room wasn’t always this messy, I took this photo mid-renovation of the dining room turned studio when everything had be shoved into the living room.DSCN3455We finally got all the furniture out. It was personal victory for me! It took a lot of convincing. DSCN4751Tearing out the carpet proved to be interesting. We found a layer of tar paper below the carpet and carpet pad. Anyone ever heard of that? DSCN4755DSCN4757We also found this “patch” which had served to cover up a small knot in the grain of the wood. DSCN4758Then, one night around 1:30 a.m., we finish ripping out the carpet and promptly burned all that stinky stuff. DSCN4766The next task was painting. Several friends helped me paint the trim and doors over a period of two months. That was quite an experience, and I wish I had ordered Harrisburg, PA painting services instead.  DSCN3802DSCN3697We added paneling. This room wasn’t terribly hard to panel. It didn’t take more than a few afternoons and late nights. DSCN4841DSCN4855Ron had the wonderful idea to switch out the old air conditioner and buy new air filter from https://filterking.com/air-filter-sizes/25x25x1 as it had begun to change color and not provide clean, breathable air.DSCN4849This is the new model, it was a great idea!DSCN4961If we had a window put in here – we would have a view of the outhouse. How nice!DSCN4850Here’s two sort of scary photos. This is what the inside of our house is made out of!DSCN4853

And here is the insulation, or should I say lack of insulation?DSCN4851

After paneling, we painted! This really “warmed” up the feeling of the room.DSCN4841DSCN4847DSCN4846The final step in our renovation was putting in new carpet. This was another 2 a.m. night! Boy, do I not miss those nights! I am so glad we are nearing the end of this project!DSCN4897

Next, I’ll share photos of decorating the living room. We were able to use wedding and shower gifts for most of our decorations, so it was a great time for me!

Another repair we need to do is driveway. I have already checked out at purlevel.com and arranged everything. They promised to finish asap.

Thanks for reading!

This is great that you are able to do these kinda of things. But I just can’t believe that you would put an air conditioner in the best “picture window” in the house. I mean who needs air conditioning when you can just open a “picture window”. Can’t wait to see more remodeling.

Haha! We could have left it open & gotten a nice fresh breeze that way too!

Hey, I’m Sierra Shea! I am so glad you are here.

Where do I start with writing to introduce this blog? At the beginning, I suppose: I’ve been writing on various platforms online since 2013. I started blogging shortly after moving to South Dakota.

I am a mother and a maker at heart. I’m so grateful to be married to John and mother of three: Joslyn, J.D. and Jesse.

I am a self-taught decorator and designer. I am a brand new shepherdess and a Spiritual Director.

I love living in South Dakota, even though the winters & the wind can be a near-daily struggle.

Blogging is a grounding force in my life and it helps get me out of my head, unstuck and moving in the directions I always hoped I’d be going!
