Emerald:

As promised. A more in depth look at the PANTONE Spring 2013 Fashion Color Report. You may notice the background of my site is awfully close to “Emerald.” This is not an accident. I love this color and I’m using it everywhere! It is also the background on my computer screen.

So – here is what Pantone said in their report about the three green colors for Spring 2013. You may want to read it out loud for added enjoyment. Life really is good when you get to talk about colors in this way. Please, don’t feel frivolous or silly for enjoying this – I am loving it.

“The prevalence of green this spring is undeniable. Similar to the many shades in our natural surroundings, this season’s greens offer a stunning foreground or the perfect backdrop for all other hues. Like the first signs of spring, Tender Shoots, a vibrant yellow-green, is invigorating, active and cheerful, while Grayed Jade, a subtle, hushed green with a gray undertone, brings about a mood of quiet reflection and repose. Sophisticated Emerald, a lively, radiant green, inspires insight and clarity while enhancing our sense of well-being. From one extreme to the other, combining all three greens presents an intriguing choice much like Mother Nature intended.”

Emerald + Quilts

Now, getting down to business. Here are some sample quilts I found that were designed around the color Emerald.

This one is called The Land of Oz. I really enjoy the stark contrast between the emerald and gray triangles.

The Emerald City. How clever!

And, from the Sew at Home Mummy. A ‘pixelated’ homage to her first machine back in the ’70s.

It is not a coincidence that all three of these ladies used Emerald in their quilts. They were actually responding to a challenge from a.squared.w to use the PANTONE color of the year. Before writing up this post, I was not aware of contests of this type, now I’d like to join one of these contests myself.

LOVE THIS! This color is perfect…When I think of “emerald”, I think of a brighter green. Maybe kelly green? We should have a challenge!

Yes, lets! That would be very fun. Maybe we could set one up around a few emeralds greens at your shop?

Hey, I’m Sierra Shea! I am so glad you are here.

Where do I start with writing to introduce this blog? At the beginning, I suppose: I’ve been writing on various platforms online since 2013. I started blogging shortly after moving to South Dakota.

I am a mother and a maker at heart. I’m so grateful to be married to John and mother of three: Joslyn, J.D. and Jesse.

I am a self-taught decorator and designer. I am a brand new shepherdess and a Spiritual Director.

I love living in South Dakota, even though the winters & the wind can be a near-daily struggle.

Blogging is a grounding force in my life and it helps get me out of my head, unstuck and moving in the directions I always hoped I’d be going!
