The De Smet News + The Lake Preston Times = “Syndicated”
Last month, for the first time, The Lake Preston Times and The De Smet News both ran one of my columns. Technically, now I am a “syndicated columnist.” The word syndicated is a joy to any writer’s ears. That means you write something once and it gets printed more than once. And, you get paid twice for something you did once. That sounds like good math to me! Recently, I wrote about my experiences substitute teaching in De Smet.
Even though I am excited to have the chance to write for two papers, I’m not going to retire from substitute teaching just yet. Small town newspapers are working on a very limited budget. Let’s just say syndicated in this case is a fancy word for reaching minimum wage.
In any case, I am very excited to continue writing these columns. I just sent in another one this week. The Lake Preston Times also recently hired a new Editor. I wish her the best of luck & I’m hoping she will be interested in continuing to use my columns.
Thanks for reading! Sierra Shea
